5 Quick and Easy Tips for Industrial Marketing

Don’t ignore these simple and inexpensive marketing opportunities.

Most industrial marketing efforts require a great deal of thought and effort. This overshadows the simple things which every company and individual can do right away.

1. Think of your email signature as an advertisement for yourself.

Every person who receives a message from you is a customer, prospect or referral source. Avoid being seen as spam by eliminating attachments like your company logo. The following can be accomplished sticking to text only.

Your email signature should contain:

  • Company name in text using relative company colors
  • Company tagline: reinforce exactly what your firm offers
  • Corporate website link
  • Links to social media accounts: encourage your contacts to know more about you

2. State your tagline within your phone system.

Whether you have a person or an auto-attendant answering incoming calls, your tagline should be stated as part of your company name. If your tagline is truly reflective of what you provide for your customers or clients, repetition increases the effectiveness of your messaging. There should be no doubt about what you do.

3. Use a consistent image for all social media.

People typically use multiple forms of social media like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Each offers the opportunity to place your portrait as part of the online profile. Repetition reinforces memory. Different images in different media cause confusion. The same image appearing in more than one media will increase awareness, which in turn increases openness to your message.

4. Participate in social media.

This doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Join industry groups within LinkedIn, read the posts on a regular basis and offer your opinion when appropriate. Your comment is shared with the entire group, gaining your company and yourself momentary notice. Regular group participation will create a level of familiarity with you. Awareness is the goal.

5. Have a concise description of your products / services which you deliver when meeting business people.

The standard name for this, which I dislike, is your elevator speech. This should be a statement of your tagline with some additional descriptive information about your company. Practice, practice, practice until you can say it without thinking even if you’re nervous. Once this is second nature, you will be relaxed and comfortable when you’re in the moment. This translates into a confident first impression, increasing your initial stature as you get to know the person you’re meeting.

Consistency and repetition increase the effectiveness of your overall marketing program. Taking care of the small details creates a professional impression for little to no cost.
