How Social Media Affects Google Results in Industrial Marketing

Matt Cutts from Google explaining how search reads social media

Social Media Positively Affects Your Search Engine Ranking.

There are a lot of gurus offering their opinions on how you “work” Google and get high search rankings.

I prefer to go to the source for information when it’s available.

When I have questions about Google’s process, I start with Google.

Matt Cutts is Google’s head of the Webspam team. His specialty is search quality and issues related to search engine optimization (SEO). Matt is a recognized spokesman for Google who has been interacting with search optimization professionals for years. He has a number of videos on YouTube which address common questions in search optimization. Basically, when Matt Cutts answers “questions,” he is addressing the latest industry topics and offering guidance. Matt is as close to a straight answer as you can get from Google.

Bottom line: Google doesn’t crawl Facebook or Twitter due to potential privacy issues and constantly changing information. Google+ isn’t mentioned, although updates seem to referenced within searches relatively quickly.

However, links from social media to websites are definitely seen and indexed. This means that traffic from social media positively affects your search engine ranking. Posts which drive traffic to your website absolutely offer a benefit – initially from the increased visitors and then from increased page rank due to that same traffic.
